Verb TO BE (Past Tense) Negative and Question Forms
We form negatives with the past tense of TO BE by placing NOT after the verb:
I was not
You were not
He was not
She was not
It was not
We were not
You were not
They were not
The contracted forms WASN’T and WEREN’T are generally used.
We form questions with the past tense of TO BE by placing the verb before the subject:
She was here yesterday.
Was she here yesterday?
EXERCISE
A) Change the following sentences from affirmative to negative:
1. I was here last week. (I was not here last week.)
2. He was here last week.
3. You were here last week.
4. We were here last week.
5. They were here last week.
6. The teacher was in class yesterday.
7. The students were in class yesterday.
